pilots of the internet, i've been competing in a global paper airplane competition called red bull paper wings and there's this whole qualification process to advance to the global finals which will be in austria in may so if you want a local qualifier, you advance on to a national qualifier for your country and if you went at the national qualifier, you advance on to the global finals now, that's for two categories distance and airtime, and i was able to qualify actually in both distance and air time to go to the national qualifier for the united states, but you have to choose to compete in one of those categories and i chose to compete in distance well, unfortunately i got fourth at the national finals which means i did not advance to the global finals in the category of distance, but there's a third category that i haven't said much about and that is aerobatics and the qualification process is completely different i was selected as the us representative for the global final in the category of aerobatics, so i am going to be flying to austria and competing against people from all over the world to throw planes and put on this performance where i'm trying to make these planes do very very cool things and i could not be more excited to participate in this this is honestly i'm not joking here a bucket list item for me so it's probably going to affect the posting schedule of this channel a bit as i prepare for the competition and then while i'm there, but i will of course try to keep you updated on my progress i'm going to do a live stream to give you a full recap when i get back, so you can even ask me questions about my experience there with all that said let's get into the video not only is sentinel an awesome paper airplane, but it is also easy to fold you can see it has these cool wing angles in the back a very eight typical shape to it and if you folded arrowhead on this channel before, you'll be surprised to find that this is a very closely related plane much of the folding sequence is the same, but you end up at this very different shape now i love this plane as it is, but i have designed a template for this plane so if you support me on patreon com foldable flight you can download and print off a template and fold a plane that looks like this rather than using a regular sheet of paper not only is there a template for this plane on my patreon, but there's a template for over sixty paper airplanes and that's an ever growing list so be sure to head over there and check that out now with all that said let's see this plane in flight and then i'll teach you how to fold it you can see here i'm throwing it up into the wind and it's turning around and then it just flies for well over a hundred feet some of these flights are probably a hundred fifty two hundred feet is just such a good plane when it's got that slight breeze behind it now that's not to say that it doesn't fly well on its own it does, but that is just the ideal scenario for this plane and you can see you basically just pinch this plane hold it like a taco, and you throw it up into the air its wings unfurl as its climbing and then it reaches that peak opens up and it just glides so gently back to the ground all you'll need in order to fold this paper airplane is a sheet of eight and a half by eleven inch paper or a four paper and we're going to begin by folding it in half from the right edge to the left edge as always try to maintain your symmetry by lining your corners up really well here before placing your crease like so, and then you can open your paper up and now you're going to fold your top edge down either one inch or two and a half centimeters and this is just an estimation so if you don't want to measure if you just want to kind of take your best guess at that measurement that's going to be totally fine and something like that is good to go and we're going to flip the paper over again and now fold this top edge here into the center crease okay and we'll do the same thing on the other side and your plane should look like that now we're going to fold this whole top triangle down right along the bottom edge of those layers there land your point here on the center crease just like so and now fold your point here back up to the top and land it again on the center crease okay and your plane should look like this now i'm going to flip the paper over and fold this edge here into the center and i'll go ahead and do the same thing on the other side and your plane should look like that now you'll notice that we have this pocket here on this layer behind the point of our plane you've got that little pocket and basically we want to stick the nose of the plane into that pocket so we're going to bend this just like so and kind of i like to align the nose just off center which helps me get it in under that layer on the layer behind and then let it just kind of correct into that position and you can see all those layers are nice and locked together together now inside that pocket and now i'm going to just rotate the paper into this orientation and i'm going to make a crease that goes right from where the edge of this pocket is intersecting the center crease and i'm going to pull all the way to that corner there, so i'm just pulling this layer kind of allowing it to get trapped by the pocket right at the center crease and all the way out to the edge just like that okay and i'll do the same thing on the other side here just like so now i can go ahead and flip the paper over and fold these outer layers right along this top edge here just kind of pulling them tightly to the body of the plane i'll do that on both sides okay and your plane should look like this now, i want to mark the point where this edge right here is intersecting that layer behind it you can see we have this other pocket on this side that's my point right there so i'm just going to mark that with a little crease right like so, or you could even use a pencil which might be easier because well the crease will sometimes make creasing in the opposite direction a little bit hard so since i have a pencil on hand i'll go ahead and do it that way but you could just mark this with a crease here but you'll see now we're opening those layers up and we're actually going to crease from the mark, we just made either with a crease or the pencil to this corner here and you'll see once i do that i can then take this tab here swing all of these layers in and tuck that behind that center pocket i'll do the same thing on the other side okay and tuck that in behind and we are almost done now i'm going to go ahead and fold this outer edge right here to my center crease and that should be a crease that is perpendicular to this bottom edge and you'll notice there's a thick layer right here that won't let you pull this quite all the way to the center crease, but just pull it as far as you can go then you can apply that crease and it should be again perpendicular to the bottom edge because you're landing this portion of the bottom edge along that portion of the bottom edge and once you do one side just fold the other side to match just like so and now we're going to fold little winglets on the outside of the plane and i'm going to add a crease here that i don't want you to add this is just going to be as an example so don't even place this crease that i just made because you can just estimate exactly how far you want to make your fins but kind of the visual i want you to imagine is folding this edge here to this crease right here so that's about the size of the fin you want, but anything similar to that is good so when i do the other side i'm just kind of book matching this here folding my plane in half along the center crease and i'll flip it over and fold this fin to be the same exact size as the other one okay now here is a slight difference between the eight and a half by eleven version and the a four version so if you are doing the eight and a half by eleven version you're using eight and a half by eleven paper do perform this step if you are not if you're using a four paper don't perform this step and i see the nose of my planes got in the little wrinkled so just fix that there so if you're using eight and a half by eleven fold this edge here to that crease and we're looking from what's going to be the top side of our plane with the narrower leading edges here this is going to create an up elevator on the back of the plane and help it fly better again you will probably not need that with the a four version of this plane and then you're just folding your winglets into position and we're ready to just set the wing angles of the plane so this is the top side you want your center crease to be a valley crease when looking from this perspective and then you're going to kind of set these outer edges of the wings basically the idea is you're going to be pinching the plane like this to throw it and when it opens up you want these outer sections of the wings to be level straight across so you have some dihedro on the center there these should be level and then you want these fins to be perpendicular to these outer edges of the wings and again you may need some up elevator with the eight and a half by eleven version that's why we made those creases you can adjust these pulling it up like that to increase the up elevator if it's diving down or you can adjust it exactly as you need it now something that is important to know is how to adjust this plane as opposed to other planes it may have a tendency to roll in one direction or the other and there are two main ways you can adjust that you're not really going to do aileron adjustments on this basically if it is rolling counterclockwise here, you want to bend this wing just a little farther and if it's rolling in the opposite direction, you would bend this wing a little farther and they may not look perfectly symmetrical but you're basing that on the performance of the plane the other thing you can do to help counter a roll is if it's rolling clockwise you can bend this fin on the left side to the left and that will help pull against that tendency and of course if it's rolling in the opposite direction, you can do the opposite so with all that said thank you so much for folding this plane and good luck flying。

while competing in red bull paper wings i've been working on a lot of gliders for the airtime category and in the airtime category your basic objective is to stay in the air for as long as possible once you throw the plane and this is easily the best plane that i've ever published for that kind of competition with a good throw and a well folded plane this can fly in the air for up to fifteen seconds which is a very very competitive score in that kind of competition and even better this thing looks like a bird i think it's just absolutely beautiful so perform as well it looks great and i have designed a template for raven that i absolutely love if you support me on patreon com foldable flight you can download and print off this template as well as over sixty others at this point and it's an ever growing library honestly it's just a really really good deal so if you're interested head over there and check that out with all of that said let's see this plane in flight and then i'll teach you how to fold it all you'll need in order to fold raven is an eight and a half by eleven inch or a four sheet of paper and we're going to begin by folding this top edge here to the bottom edge you can see i've already placed my crease so that's nice and easy for me and i'm going to open the paper back up and keep your left edge, the left edge and flip the paper over like so so now this is a mountain crease and we're going to fold the top edge here to our left edge my crease should go right through the top left corner and i'm only creasing to this point here along that center crease and now i'll unfold and i'm going to do the same thing taking this bottom edge to the left edge and again i'm just creasing to that point on my center crease just like so and now i can fold the paper in half along that center crease right, like that and stand this whole section up and now squash fold it landing this spine here along that edge right there and then i will open the paper back up and rotate it into this orientation here and now i'm going to fold the top edge into the center and do that on both sides i'll open that up up and fold the top edge to this point right here and now when i open this up notice that these outer diagonals are valley creases currently and the inner ones are mountain creases i'm going to flip my paper over, so that the opposite is true and i'm ready to make an important fold here basically i'm folding from this point right here where this inner diagonal crease intersects that crease there and i didn't quite get the intersection so this is my point there i'm going to crease from that point up to where this center crease intersects the top edge and i'm going to actually mark those on the other side of the paper as well really quickly, so you can see as i make this fold i'm looking for this reference point right here where my center creases intersecting the top edge and that point there which is the opposite side of that point right there and i can open that up and now i'm going to do the same exact crease on this side okay and now we have what is kind of our set of precreases preparing us to make a collapse here if you have followed meat exactly, so far your creases should be mountain creases along this outer square or diamond here valley creases along the inner diamond and then this whole center crease or not center crease horizontal crease right now is a mountain crease we're going to need to change that into mountain crease along this section here between your outer diamond and the inner diamond this needs to be a valley a mountain again through this section here valley mountain okay so let's prepare those creases and i actually want this section down here on my center crease to be mountain as well, oh, that's not true i need that to be a valley sorry for confusing you so i'm popping these in and you can kind of see the shape on creating the basic thing that i'm going to be doing here let me flip the paper over i'm folding this top point to that point right there and as i do that watch what the paper does it's going to collapse into this shape here so i'll show you that from the other side as well, so as i pull that down let's make sure that this crease is doing exactly what it should do going all the way to that point right like so it kind of pulls in just like that as i bring those two points together and it creates this shape and then when you have it like this you're just folding your plane in half so that these layers go on the outside i know that was complicated that's why this plan is considered an advanced model but hopefully you were able to follow that with me and now we're going to open this up along this existing crease that's in here just like so, and you can see that doesn't lie flat just by doing that so now you find this edge right there and you're going to pull this layer down right along that allowing a new crease to form from that point to that point there and this whole thing to open outward as you do that land this edge right along that edge and you can flatten like so, and we're going to flip the paper over and do the whole thing on this side as well, so i'm opening up along this existing crease right there and then i can pull down right along the top edge of that layer creating a crease there and a crease from that point to there, as i flatten that and book match it to my other wing just like so okay so now this is going to become the nose of our playing here on the left side, i'm going to fold from this point where this edge is intersecting the top layer of my paper i'm going to fold up to that corner there just like so, and then i'm going to open that up and reverse the crease, i just made and then tuck all of this tab here behind all of the other layers, locks, everything together and i'll flip the plane over here's my nose and do the same thing on this side so i'm folding from this point here to this point out here opening that up and reversing this crease and tucking this tab behind everything else okay and now here's our nose i'm folding from our nose to about a centimeter or half an inch above this corner there, so this is the wing crease folding just like so that can be an estimation at the back it doesn't have to be an exact measurement and i'll do the same exact thing on the other side flipping the paper over folding this wing to match and we have one more kind of tricky step left in the plane you can see we are almost done but the wings aren't quite shaped correctly yet this step depends on whether you are using a four or eight and a half by eleven paper basically we're going to be folding this nose grabbing both layers at the same time to a point along this wind, this wind crease here and the way we determine which point we're folding to is whether you're using a four or even half by eleven so if you're using a four find this crease that's running right along here and just kind of imaginary imagine continuing that crease to this point right there that is the point you fold your nose to and actually you want aim just below it slightly under this wing crease so basically i would fold to about that point right there and since i'm using a four that is where i fold to if i was using eight and a half by eleven i would fold basically to this point right here the junction between this edge and that edge and that would be kind of my target for folding these layers it needs to be a bigger front section so here using a four i fold right to that point just below this intersection and now i have kind of these two mirrored creases you can see ones of mountain, ones of valley from this perspective the one that is a valley so the mountain over here is the one i want to work with basically, i'm going to go ahead and fold in along that crease that already exists from that last step and then i want to try and mirror that by reversing this crease on the other side and you can kind of do that, but the layers are so thick that it's hard to reverse that really precisely, so make sure as you close this that your wings match up and you can see mine don't quite match up, so i'm going to adjust this crease just a little bit until my wings are more similar just like so, and now i'm ready to fold again on my wing crease here, so i'm not making any new crease, i'm just folding right along that and you can see we've got this kind of elbow locking things together now once, i do one side i gently do the other side being careful not to tear that center section right there that's kind of like a lafast lock, right at the front of the plane okay and now all that we have left to do is curve the wings and the way we're going to do that is kind of just roll these really thick layers to start right at the front of the plane, but basically you are working and you want to roll these two wings symmetrically, so that they look just alike and you want to bring it really down and let your wings droop below the plane and come down so the outer edges of your wings are basically level with this lowest point of the plane that's really going to help its stability when you bring the outer edges of the wings down so this left wing is about the way i want it curved and i would just continue to curve this right wing until i get it in that same orientation now with the eight half by eleven version of this plane you will probably need to add just a little bit of up elevator to the plane and that just improves its balance, but with the a four version you're not going to need that probably the other thing to note is that you don't really tune this plane the way you tune most planes so if it's rolling to the left that basically means your right wing is generating more lift than the left wing, you can curve your right wing, a little bit more so if it's rolling counter clockwise you curve the right wing, a bit more if it's rolling clockwise you curve your left wing, a bit more and if it's just erratic and not seeming like it's well balanced make sure that the outer edges of your wings go lower than they currently are and that's basically the key to balancing this paper airplane so thank you so much for watching this tutorial and good luck flying。

hello, pilots of the internet and welcome to foldable flight where i teach you how to fold paper airplanes that will blow your mind and in this episode we're folding serious now as you can see sirius has exceptionally wide wings and it even locks in this three dimensional shape both in the front and in the back, and that makes it very aerodynamic as well and those two things together means it has a very very good glider ratio now as always i have designed a template for this paper airplane, so if you support me on patreon com foldable flight you can fold one that looks like this rather than using a plain white sheet of paper and with that said let's see the plane in flight and then i'll teach you how to fold it all you will need in order to fold seriouss is an eight and a half by eleven inch sheet of paper and we will begin by folding this right edge to the left edge now as always symmetry is very important, so try very hard to line up your corners in this step like so and crease and make sure your creased edge is now on the right and we're folding this top edge to that right edge and my crease should go right through that top right corner and i'm making a triangle like this and then i'll flip the paper over fold the other side to match and now i'll open the paper up and fold this top point down to that point there now we can open the paper all the way back up into this orientation on i'm folding down on this line we just made, but i'm not creasing all the way across the paper you can see we are also creasing on these two lines here, and we should have these two bulges and we're going to collapse those inward and form them to a point that lands right in the middle of the paper okay and now i will flip each flap out to the outside like so using the exist increase that's on the layer beneath this top one now, i am ready to go ahead and flip my paper over and i want to fold a crease that starts in this top left corner and my right corner is going to land on the middle crease so basically i'm just making sure that crease starts right there in that top corner and then i'm lining this up right on the center crease and then i can crease the full length of the paper like so and once you've done that you can open it up and repeat that on the other side so my crease should go right through this top right corner and i'm landing this corner on the center crease and you can see if you got the first step correct and this one correct this top crease should land on your center crease as well and now we will go ahead and reverse that crease like so just opening that pocket up and now i can collapse this right side in and stand my ravity or vertically not making any new creases just folding on those existing creases and now we have this standing pocket and basically i'm going to open that up and perform a squash fold on it by just pushing down on that spine and landing this top crease between these top two layers where our center crease would be and flat in the pocket and now we're actually going to back out and unfold like so flip the paper over and i'm going to fold this top edge so that it lands on this intersection of creases here, but i'm not creasing all the way across the paper i'm just creasing between this crease and this crease, so you can watch as i do that i'm just taking my thumbnail and running it right from there to there and you can see where my crease ends up now, we're going to mess with these flaps again i'm going to fold it into the center and fold this edge to land on this crease and this point should land on that point i'll unfold that and fold this edge to land on the free so just made and i'll flip this to the right and fold this little triangle down on that edge and unfold that flip it back over and i'm folding this triangle in and on that crease and on that crease and it should look like that before you flip it back into its original position now, we'll do all those steps on the left side as well, so i'm flipping this to the right folding this edge here to land on that existing crease, opening up folding that edge to the crease, i just made flipping this whole thing to the left folding this little triangle down along that edge and now tucking the triangle in folding in folding in again and flipping this back to the left okay, so now we'll flip the paper back over and collapse in using these existing diagonal creases we have like so and you may need to re establish your squash fold if it doesn't collapse into that position, naturally and rotate the paper so that this point is toward you now, i want to fold on this crease, we made just a few moments ago and i'm pulling this edge right here to land on that point and as i do so you'll notice these other layers do not lie flat you'll want to make sure to pull so they're pulling all the way to that edge that is formed by this crease this crease becomes an edge as you pull that over make sure you're pulling these pockets all the way open to that point and i want to crease from this point right here out to this edge on all these top layers so watch as i do that i'm making sure my point is right there against that layer and i'm creasing all the way out to this corner it can be a little tricky to be accurate here but try your best and once you do that you'll notice you can flatten this as well like so and once you do one side you can do the other side to match and after creasing this long edge you can crease this short edge as well and your plane should look like this we're now ready to actually open this whole thing up and as we pull these layers open allow the plane to fold along that center crease and just kind of collapse it in like so, and you can lie your plane flat on the table in this orientation now i'm going to open these layers up and you'll notice we have this tab here this triangular tab we've worked on this pocket right here and basically i want to fold it close these layers up and tuck this tab behind that pocket so you may even want to just kind of curl this tab and preparation for this step but basically as i close these layers that tab is going in behind that pocket and you'll notice when you close that all up your wing no longer is straight it bends at that angle so with my plane flat i'm going to run my finger along that crease and push that slack outward which will help straighten my wing back up a bit so now i'll go ahead and repeat those steps on this side, tucking this tab in behind that pocket like so and running my finger to push out the slack of the wing like so okay so now we're looking for the layer of that pocket we just tucked things into and basically i want to find the point at which this top layer is intersecting the point where this pocket meets this edge so that's my point right there and i want to start my crease at that point land this corner here on this edge, so one reference is that point we just talked about the other reference is landing that on the outer edge of your wing so something like that and now we will go ahead and reverse this crease and tuck this portion of the layer behind everything else this becomes a very back layer so that should go into the pocket that we were talking about earlier as well well and then i can put the paper over and do the same thing on this side reverse that crease and your plane should look like this we're now ready to fold the wings and the crease for the wings will start right at the nose of the plane up here go down just above this back corner and there are some really thick layers here especially at the nose and at this point right here that you're going to want to roll with your thumb as you begin to shape this crease so in preparation for the crease kind of roll the paper with your thumb kind of a long your expected trajectory of the crease and then you can pull the wing down and once you got it lined up you can press it flat like so, and now i will show you exactly where my crease went again you can see it's just a little bit above that back edge anything similar to what i've done is great and now we can fold our second wing to match again i'm rolling those layers in preparation for the crease and i try to land this on my other wing to match everything up and you can see we are almost done at this point all that's left to do is fold the winglets so i will set my plane flat on the table and i want to crease my winglets so that the crease i make is parallel to the center fuselage of my plane and my winglet the way i guesstimate the size is that this edge right here ends up being something close to three quarters of an inch and anything close to that is great and you can once you fold one fold the plane back in half book match it and fold your other winglet to match and that is a finished serus which is just an absolutely stunning glider it flies so slow and gracefully and is just really an excellent plane so with that said thank you so much for watching this video and good luck flying your plane。
