Things Before Me I am often drawn to the surfaces of everyday things. Their condition and the way they are arranged make me notice how people treat them, and lead me to ask: how did what is before me come to look this way? Human actions and intentions, along with the needs, habits and limits behind them, intertwine here and leave their marks. These photographs were taken in real places of daily life. I pay attention to how human interventions remain, and how they change through use and time. Some arrangements hold, while others gradually loosen; what was covered may surface again, and an intention that was once clear may become hard to read. Traces from different moments appear before me at once, revealing a complexity in ordinary things beyond the first glance. I photograph by following these details, and keep the questions and associations they raise. A photograph can show traces, but cannot always explain their causes. What interests me is this state where clarity and uncertainty coexist: it seems that nothing has happened, yet the things before me have already been changed by human action and time, and are still changing.
